Genesis Spring term letter
Genesis Spring term letter and photos. 23rd January 2010
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
This term we have two topics planned around our Geography and Science work. Up until half term we will be concentrating on life in Polar Regions, which ties in with our Geography theme of a contrasting location abroad. Children will be learning about what it is like to live in such a cold climate, which different countries are within the Arctic circle and how different it is from living in England. We have been looking at Polar animals, which also ties in with our Science theme of Life Processes and living things, and thinking about how they have adapted to life in the snow. Our Art and Design and Technology activities have also had an Arctic theme and you may also have noticed that we have an igloo in the classroom!
After half term we will be basing our learning on the stories of ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ as we learn more about what plants need to grow and what sorts of plants and animals there are in the local environment. We will also be thinking about the locality of the school and what changes there have been in the local area. We plan to have a trip to the local park later in the term to support this learning.
Some children have already brought things in to show, which are relevant to our current topic and if you have anything at home that you think would interest the children or support their learning in this area then we would encourage you to bring them in.
We would like to remind you of our regular weekly activities:
v Monday – library. Please bring all library books back to change.
v Thursday – homework. Children will be given their book bags with maths and reading homework and a list of spellings to complete. Please ensure this is returned by the following Tuesday so that there is sufficient time to mark the work and prepare a new set to give out.
v Friday – P.E. Children require a T shirt and pair of shorts to change into for P.E., which should be named and sent in a bag. It has been a concern that a number of children regularly come to school without a P.E. kit; in fact a third of the children in class this week did not have one. We only have a limited amount of spare kit which is shared with the other classes in Key Stage 1 and therefore it is very important that children have their own kit. As well as P.E. on a Friday the children have regular dance lessons with Mrs Gay at least once a fortnight and there are often other physical activity sessions such as cricket so it is important that the children’s kit is left in school to be used when needed.
Finally, if you have any concerns please do not hesitate to speak to either of us when we are out on the playground at the start or end of the day or make an appointment for a longer chat after school. Thank you for your continued support.
Mrs. H. Robinson Mrs. R. Horrigan
